Reset Brother Drum - Instructions for Brother printers
translate instructions
On this page we have included a guide on how to reset Brother drums. Brother printer reset guides are sorted by printer series and printer model. You will also find a list of the different drums for Brother printers, sorted according to the DR numbers (DR stands for DRUM at Brother).
When is a Brother drum reset necessary?
After a drum change, the Brother laser printer should automatically recognize the new drum and reset the counter in the printer. If this detection does not work immediately, e.g. B. when using compatible drums for Brother printers, you should reset the drum so that you can continue printing normally.
If the light on the printer display is blinking, indicating that the drum unit needs to be replaced, but you are able to print reasonably well with the new drum, you can try resetting the drum to resolve the laser printer light blinking issue. Observe the documents that are then printed and replace the drum unit in good time if the print image deteriorates accordingly and artefacts such as streaks become visible on the printed documents. If possible, reset the drum unit immediately after replacing it to avoid damage to the machine. Defective drums should be replaced immediately.
The drum unit is a consumable part and can usually withstand several toners before the printed image deteriorates and artefacts (streaks, streaks) appear on the printed documents. A drum change is necessary, for example, after 25.000 printed pages. However, this depends on the drum used and is specified by the manufacturer. Some drum units can print 100.000+ pages before they need to be replaced.
If you are having problems with the drum unit, simply locate the relevant Brother drum reset guide to have the printer re-detect the drum. In this way, you can solve the problem in a few simple steps.

Please also note the following information:
Resetting the drum prematurely can damage the device. If possible, reset the drum unit only immediately after replacing it. Follow Brother's drum reset instructions quickly. Pay attention to the exact order of the individual steps in the instructions. Not every Brother printer reports the successful completion of the reset process. Follow the instructions in your printer's manual when opening the printer's front cover or before touching any components inside the printer. If you are unsure, do not follow the instructions and contact a professional. Note the warranty on your printer and any existing service contracts.
When the instructions allow you to choose between different drum units, this often refers to the different ink colors. Some Brother laser printers work with multiple drums, each of which can hold a toner cartridge.
A selection of the letters CMYK always refers to the individual colors of a Brother color laser printer. C stands for cyan, M for magenta, Y for yellow (yellow) and K for black (key / black). If you are installing a new drum set and want to perform a drum reset for all drums in your Brother printer, select the color to reset or repeat the instructions for all colors.
